The Handwriting Game

Here is yet another thing I stole from Donna.  It’s “The Handwriting Game”.  As you can see, Jonah wanted you all to see his handwriting, too.  Here are the questions (I think the answers are pretty readable, so I’m not going to type them out):

1. What is your name and your blogger name?
2. What is your blog URL?
3. Write “The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog”
4. Write Your Favourite Quote
5. What is your favourite song?
6. What is your favourite music right now?
7. Is there anything else you would like to add about your handwriting?
8. Choose Thee Bloggers to follow suit.

Aaron, Heather, Catherine (these are people I thought might actually do it.  Feel free to do it if you want to).

Today is a busy day.  Kindermusik this morning and a meeting at the place I do archiving for this afternoon.  I know that’s only two things, but when you throw in a toddler nap and lunch, that equates to a pretty full day.

Music Tuesday: Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds – Careless Whisper

This is my last Music Tuesday post featuring music that my brother introduced me to, so I wanted it to be extra awesome.  I first heard Name Your Link“>Rufus Wainwright probably 10-11 years ago.  It was my brother’s last Thanksgiving with our family before he moved to Chicago.  We were headed to our usual family lunch and Kris (my brother) gave my dad Rufus Wainwright“>this CD to put in.  A couple days later, I couldn’t get some of the songs out of my head, and I had to ask my brother who it was.  From then on, I was hooked.  Rufus is one of my two favorite musicians (Tom Waits being the other) and I’ve seen him live twice and met him once and HE EVEN TOUCHED ME!

Aaanyway, I really wanted to post a song from that CD, but they all have ads before them and that annoys me, so I thought I’d post this duet between Rufus and Name Your Link“>Ben Folds.  They covered this song when we saw them a few years ago, as well, and it was marvelous.

Rekindled love (for a camera)

Today I got out my Nikon D50 for the first time in many months.  It had been so long since Jonah had seen it that he was actually afraid of the noise it made when I took a picture.  Fortunately, he got over it pretty quickly, and I was able to get a few good pictures of him.  Somehow I had forgotten what great photos this camera can take.  I like having my point-and-shoot digital because it’s convenient to carry around, but I’m definitely going to be pulling out the D50 more often.

Q&A

I found this over at Donna’s blog and thought it’d be something pretty quick and mindless that I could do since I suck at posting.  So, yeah.  Feel free to answer these questions yourself!

1. What is your favorite tv show?

My favorite show of all time is the Kids in the Hall.  I have a ton of “favorite” tv shows, but this is the best.  I’ve been watching it for probably around 10 years, maybe longer.  I didn’t start watching it until after it was already in reruns, but just happened to catch it on Comedy Central one spring break.  I was hooked immediately.

2. What is your favorite colour?

Brown.  I also like grey.

3. What is your favorite food?

I really like reheated spaghetti.  And chocolate.  Things I should not have.

4. Who is your role model?

I have two jewelry-making role models.  Katy from Withering Elm and Suzanne from Hip to be Me.  We have different styles, but they are both so committed to what they do and they make beautiful items.

5. What is your favorite vintage find?

I am not the one who found it, but I would have to say my engagement ring.  It’s too small for me right now (damn pregnancy weight that I still haven’t lost), but I can’t wait to wear it again.

6. What product is your favorite to make?

Rings!  Although I hate working with sterling silver wire, so that stresses me out, but rings in general are my favorite.

7. Vintage or New?

Don’t care.

8. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked (or other cookie dough, especially with chocolate ice cream).  I tend to like coffee-flavored ice cream, too.

9. What hair colour do you wish you had?

I don’t know, just something that wasn’t so drab.

10. What is your FAVORITE blog?

If I had to pick one, I would pick Miss Zoot.  She is hilarious and real and her family is really interesting and fun.

Music Tuesday: Ben Lee – Household Name

Sorry the bulk of my posts are Music Tuesdays.  I am way busier than I thought when I started this blog.  I’m hoping it will get better when the semester ends.

Today I don’t have a music video for you, because I can’t find one for the song I want to do.  But I do have a link to the song.  It’s Household Name by Name Your Link“>Ben Lee.  It’s an adorable and quirky song and I love it.

You can listen to the song here.

Aaron and I got to see Ben Lee, along with Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright, several years ago.  It was a great show, even though we were in the very back row of the balcony.  It was supposed to be an outdoor show, but then it got moved at the last minute due to rain, and by the time we got to the new venue (in Tulsa, a city we were pretty unfamiliar with), pretty much everything but the back row and the small standing area at the front was taken.  Blerg!

My favorite part of Ben’s performance was when he asked the audience, “Is Hanson here tonight?  I love those guys!”

Music Tuesday: Ani Difranco – 32 Flavors

I almost forgot about Music Tuesday today!  My lovely husband reminded me (thank you, lovely husband).

Going with the theme of music my brother has introduced me to, today I give you 32 Flavors by “>Ani Difranco.  This is a live version of another song that was on one of his mix tapes.  I’ve been a fan ever since I heard it.  Aaron and I saw Ani a couple years ago when she came to Fayetteville, and she was excellent.

Kindermusik

Jonah went to his first Kindermusik class on Thursday.  We were late in inquiring about the classes (I believe they had started before we got a second car, anyway), so we missed the first three or four, but when we went to our first class, Jonah acted like he had known the other kids and parents forever.  He went around to everyone and socialized.  He patted the youngest group member’s hair.  He “borrowed” instruments from the other kids.  He didn’t want to sit down during the sitting down parts, but he loved playing with scarves and the maypole and chasing the other little boy who was there.

We are definitely going to have to work on transitioning and putting away the things we’re done playing with (and not taking three more out of the basket at the same time).  His Kindermusik class is also taught by a lady I’ve known since I was a kid, so that adds an extra level of enjoyment.  Every time Miss Ruth went to put one thing away and get the next, he wanted to follow her to see what she was doing.

We have been really looking lately for different ways to help him socialize, and this seems like it will be great.  Jonah has also been on a couple of playdates with his new friend Micah, and we joined a playgroup in the area, so I think we’re well on our way.

We received Jonah’s home music kit last night, and Jonah played with his instrument and read his book before he went to bed.

Playing with his maraca.

Reading his Kindermusik book.

My favorite baby clothes

Yesterday I found out my good friend Staci is having a baby boy!  I wanted to let her look through Jonah’s old baby clothes, but first I wanted to look through everything to see what I wanted to keep.

This is everything Jonah has that is too small for him.  It was all shoved into his closet.  Cat included to show scale (or maybe because he was sniffing everything.  Either way.).

I’m really proud that I didn’t try to keep half of this stuff (especially the teeny tiny adorable onesies that he somehow used to fit into).  I only kept stuff that was super important to me.  I wanted to show you what I decided to keep and why.

My parents brought Jonah this shirt when they came back from Colorado:

My brother got both of these for Jonah for his first Christmas.  He lives in Chicago, so he likes to bring Chicago-themed presents. :)

Staci and her husband R.D. brought this to Jonah when he was very tiny.  I have a very appropriate picture of him screaming his head off while wearing it.

This is the first outfit we bought for Jonah right after we found out he was going to be a boy:

I don’t know exactly why I love this one so much, other than it declares his love for me.  I remember taking pictures with him in it when he was just a few days or so old.

I am about the least into sports as a person can be, but I figured I ought to keep his Arkansas stuff.

This is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, onesies Jonah ever had.  I just think it’s adorable and he looked so cute in it.  Notice the spit up stains around the collar.  Memories.

A good friend of the family got Jonah these, and I think they are ADORABLE.  I know I’ve said the word “adorable” about 80 times now, but can you blame me?

Look how cute this hoodie is.  I don’t have any real reason for keeping this, other than the fact that I love it, and it’s got spit up stains on it, so that seemed like two good reasons.

Okay, last ones.  A hat that my friend LaDonna got for him that made him look like a baby pirate, and tiny Chucks that our friend Sara sent over from Chicago.

Here’s Jonah having fun with Staci.  :)  Okay, that’s all for now.

Music Tuesday: Bjork – Army of Me

Last week I featured Sondre Lerche, who is a musician the my brother introduced me to, so I decided to continue with that theme.  I’m going to try to feature someone my brother introduced me to every Tuesday in March.  Because it’s fun.

This week’s song is from “>Bjork‘s CD “>Post, which I think is her best CD.  A lot of her videos are weird and creepy, but I think this one is just weird and fun.  My brother used to make me mix tapes years and years ago, and this is one of the more memorable songs from back then.

ETA:  I totally forgot to say that when I pulled up the video to watch it, Jonah first started “dancing” in his high chair, and then waved to Bjork.  So, yeah.  Best kid ever.

Uh oh!

Jonah has added a new word/phrase to his (so far very small) vocabulary: uh oh!  He started saying it over the weekend, according to my mom (my parents watch him on Saturdays), but I didn’t hear it until today.

It makes me feel a bit better about him not talking much.  I’m not counting on hearing it for long, though — once he learns something new, he usually says or does it for a day or two, and then stops.
